For the third time in twelve months, I’ve been laid off with no warning.
This, ironically, comes right after a post where I expressed my optimisim for the coming year, despite the absolutely insane state of the world.
I’m trying really hard to keep that optimism.
What happened?
I’m not really sure, to be honest. This past tuesday morning (mid sprint) I get a message from my manager asking for a talk. I get in and he said “Hold on while we get [ the HR person ] in.”
Never what you want to hear.
He told me they were “restructuring” and couldn’t keep me on.
Just like that, after 9 months, I’m jobless again.
What’s next?
I don’t really want to pour myself into another money making machine
I’m lucky enough to have some connections that could give me some contract work. Hopefully that pans out and I’ll be able to keep myself afloat.
While doing that part-time, I’m going to spend a few months doing game dev full time.
I’m almost 30 and it’s been my dream to work for myself making games since I was a child. I have wonderful people in my life who support me and I’ve managed to save enough for a few months even without contract work.
Now’s the time to try, so here I go.
I’ll be back soon with some details on the project I’m making :)
